Crisptones

The Crisptones Band was started in 2004 by the brothers Mark & Robin Crisp on the Central Coast of San Luis Obispo, but they were originally from Visalia, California. The Crisptones Band play the Central Coast from Santa Barbara to Paso Robles regularly and further at times. The Band has quite a following for those who love the originals that are played at every event. The band was awarded Contemporary band of the year by the LA Music Awards where they played live at the event where there were 1.3 million viewers on the webcast and it is televised to be aired on E channel. They received the honor for the song "These Old Photographs" Robin, the lead guitar player and co writer in the Crisptones Band, also plays lap steel, dobro, piano and most of the lead work. Robin, who's three years older than Mark was a gigantic musical influence on his younger brother. Mark is a guitar player and writes a lot of the songs for the Crisptones, Mark was awarded "Singer, Songwriter of 2007", by the Dallas Song Writers Association. Mark was also top finalist in the Durango Song Writing Contest of 2007 with two songs and was also a finalist in the 11th Annual 2007 Unisong International Song Writing Competition. Mark plays almost all his own guitar work and dabbles in several other instruments. With influences that include Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills and Nash and other current acts such as Alison Krauss, Dwight Yokum, & Tom Petty, Mark and Rob Crisp's writings are both familiar & new. Mark, at times writes songs with a sense of humor. I'm Just Here To Make You Look Good, a line he got from a bald man who was at a poetry class that was packed with cute young girls. But other songs he's written are bittersweet and touching. When Mark's mother passed away he wrote a tune Mama's Stew, which has created a stir on Music Row. Robin, a part time backhoe operator wrote a song "Best Little Hoe In Town, a really cool rock tune that has a funny bone to it. Mark said. Now, more than ever we love to write and record. Going into the studio and coming out with a finished product is pure satisfaction.." Sharp Objects of Nashville has signed both Mark and Robin to songwriting contracts. Currently the Crisptones Band are a four piece band with Michael Hocking on bass, and Kevin Van Hise on Drums. With 5th member we have Art Esparza on Sax or Ron Pagan on Keys. You will want to catch the Crisptones Band playing when you get the chance.
